"The staff at the Woods Hole Inn blew us away with their warmth and hospitality.
When they say "European", this is what they mean!"

Woods Hole is 80 miles south of Boston’s Logan International Airport with non-stop flights landing daily from all over the world. Providence’s TF Green Airport is 70 miles east. Buses run regularly from both airports to Woods Hole, or we can assist you in hiring a car service.

ECO-TOURISM

As an eco-inn, we have taken great pains to renovate and run the property with care towards mother earth. Here is a short list of our efforts and we appreciate guest participation and feedback on our goal to run a high-quality inn with as little impact as possible:

  • - we use warm compact fluorescent lighting, cutting our electric use dramatically, and we seek to turn off lights and air conditioners when rooms are empty
  • - we recycle to limit our waste stream
  • - we use soaps handmade with all natural ingredients in Woods Hole by a local artisan
  •  - we have shower dispensers in the baths for body wash and shampoo to eliminate plastic waste
  • - we use green cleaning products to clean the rooms
  • - we line dry our laundry when possible
  • - we use energy efficient appliances
  • - food in our restaurant and for breakfast is sourced locally whenever possible
  • - we offer new energy efficient air conditioning units in the rooms only and ask customers to use them sparingly as the ocean breezes are often plenty to keep cool

In renovating this 100+ year old property, we took great pains to reuse as much wood from the building as possible. For example, the cabinets in our restaurant are made from doors no longer in use in the inn. We used organic paints to complete the interior painting. Wood and building material we could not use was salvaged and recycled whenever possible. We improved the building’s heat efficiency with new thermal windows and insulation. We patched and repaired the building's outer layer of shingles rather than ripping it all off and starting again. We repaired floors, walls, improved electric and plumbing systems, upgraded the heating system without replacing it.

We appreciate any ideas or thoughts you might have about how we can do better. We are open to a dialogue with guests and others about living green.

Staying GREEN by the deep BLUE sea.
